A reported 14 worms were pulled from a woman’s eye in Oregon, after walking through a cattle field……. Tiny worms that were said to be caused by “face flies.”
Such worms are very rare to find in people. But as you can see, very possible.
The same tiny worms were pulled from a dogs eyes at a veterinary clinic in Encinitas, just a year before this findng. So yes, flies can be very bad. Try to keep areas where your pets live as clean as possible to avoid a large amount of flies.
Flies can be the source of many other problems too.
Biting flies will feed on a pets ears or face causing fly strike dermatitis. Open wounds then become infected, which leads to more problems like worms and maggots. These infections need to be cleaned and treated by a veterinarian, which often needs anesthesia, treatment, along with antibiotics, depending on how severe.
This is a warm weather problem, mostly seen in the summer time. There are many fly repellants available for pets, if you happen to see an abundance of flies in an area or yard where your dog lives.
Flies are also known to bring disease and illness like e-coli, so keeping your pet clean with routine baths is also helpful.
All good reasons to make sure your pets yard is “picked up” and clean, so as not to draw ANY flies or parasites into your yard, or home.
Keep clean, keep your family safe
