  1. Suspected mountain lion attack in Larimer County, Colorado leaves trails closed, with reminder to hikers- Do not hike alone.

    We have heard stories of hikers that have come across or even filmed mountain lions on trails in the past, but this comes as a clear reminder that these animals can be very dangerous.

    It’s always safer to hike with a companion or in a group as trails can be shared with wildlife.
    -Not only for safety from wildlife but falling, illness or dehydration among other dangers.

  3. Vaccinated dog infected with rabies had previously entered a boarding facility causing concern for others, as well as proactive treatment.

    Health officials are investigating how this dog became infected with rabies.
    The dog that has since been euthanized after being brought back to PAWS Chicago for signs of aggression.
    The dog had a rabies vaccine in June.
    This could mean the dog was exposed to rabies prior to the vaccine, and it stayed dormant for months or even longer.

    Depending on severity and location of a bite, the incubation period can range from several weeks, to months, and sometimes even years before showing signs.

    This is the first rabies positive case in Illinoise since 1964

    – While this is not common it brings awareness to pet owners that vaccines should always be up to date.
    Especially outdoor pets exposed to wildlife.
    Wildlife such as bats can still carry rabies.

  5. Visiting La Jolla seals in the winter.

    – Can you still see them? Absolutely!

    “The La Jolla colony has about
    200 seals who use the site at Casa Beach as a haul out location year-round.

    They also use the beach during the winter and spring as their rookery.
    A rookery is a specific area where seals gather each year to mate and raise young.”

    Where to put the poop? WelI, if you’re gonna bag it, don’t leave it.
    Disposable bags serve a purpose, but not disposing of them in the proper way defeats the purpose.

    Meeting an ostrich is quite the experience.

    An ostrich is the tallest bird in the world standing up to 9 feet tall weighing over 300 pounds! Carrying all that weight they don’t fly, but they can still reach speeds of up to 37 mph!
